33nd Annual

El Tour De Tucson - November 21, 2015

104 Mile Perimeter Bike Ride   Tucson, Arizona

I finished the ride in 6 hours and 54 minutes - 35 minutes less than last year

The route takes the riders around the entire city of Tucson

Over 3000 riders start the 104 miles and there are 4 shorter

distances that have approximately another 6000 riders.

Started at 7 AM in downtown Tucson - 46 degrees at start, with a high of 80 during the day, and very little wind - Great Tucson Weather

Arthur Baker - Everett Math Teacher

Arthur age 81, died Monday, November 02, 2015 at home with family by his side.  Art grew up in Redford as an avid Tiger's fan and moved to Lansing in 1952,

earning his B.S. in 1955 and M.A in 1958 both from M.S.U.  He remained a Spartan throughout his life. 

He was a member of the Pi Mu Epsilon mathematics fraternity.  He was a dedicated teacher of mathematics at Everett High School

until his retirement in 1988, and he continued to teach at L.C.C. until 2004.  Altogether he taught for 48 years.

 While at Everett, he coordinated the thanksgiving project for 20 years providing meals to needy families. 

 He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Patricia.  Together they visited most of the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and Antarctica. 

He also enjoyed time with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at the cottage he built on Grand Traverse Bay. 

 He married Patricia Judson in 1956 and enjoyed 59 years together.  

Together they were founding members of Delta Presbyterian Church where they served as Elders, Deacons, Youth group leaders and mission workers.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three sons, Jon (Pamela) of Mt. Pleasant, Tom (Doreen) of Eaton Rapids, and David (Karrie) of Holt;

eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Wilcox; brother, Boyd (Doris) Baker. 

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Baker, and Irene Baker-Reno, and Seiber Reno.

Husband of our classmate Jackie Tillman Householder

 

Born March 25, 1942 in Lansing, the son of Robert D. and Vivian (Nicholson) Householder, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015. Bob lived his whole life in the Lansing area and graduated from Lansing Everett High School. He was the owner of Abbey Heating and Cooling and a member and past president of the Ford V-8 Flathead Club. Bob has a large collection of classic cars, especially his 1953 Ford Crown Victorias. He also enjoyed working on and restoring antique furniture, a skill and passion that he acquired from Jackie’s dad. Bob will always be remembered as a person who would do anything for anyone. With a tireless work ethic, up until his last days, he was driven to get up and go open up the office. Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lynn Householder. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jackie, 3 children: Steve (Sue) Householder, Robyn Householder and Emily Householder, 4 grandchildren: Amber, Logan, Grant and Jackson Householder, a sister, Nickie Koos and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 11:00AM at the DeWitt Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Rd, DeWitt, MI with Pastor Rod Kalajainen officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM. A luncheon will follow the funeral services at the church. Interment will take place at 2:00PM in Delta Center Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Rd, DeWitt, MI, 48820. Condolences can be made at www.palmerbush.com.

Everett Year Book Senior Picture

 

 Steven Richard Pletcher, 70, of River Bend, NC  died at his home Wednesday, May 20, 2015.
He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and a

senior executive with several international corporate security agencies.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Cookman Pletcher of River Bend;

sons Timothy Pletcher of Austin, TX and Mathew Pletcher of Round Lake, IL;

daughter Nicole Koretsky of Lake Bluff, IL; mother Marrian Pletcher Coller of Aiken, SC;

 brother Timothy A. Pletcher of North Augusta, SC; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

John Hocij

John Hocij passed away unexpectedly in Florida on Friday November 14, 2014 at the age of 69.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Rosemary (Jantz) Hocij and sister Anne (Dan)

Bartkiw, as well as many extended family and close friends. John was born September 11, 1945 to Maria (Galatowsky) and

Nicholas Hocij in Bremen, Germany, and spent his youthful years living in Hamtramck, Michigan. He honorably served

his country in the U.S. Army as a Vietnam War veteran. John graduated from Michigan State University (M.A. Engineering)

and went on to become an enterprising, self-employed businessman. He founded Graphtec Industries and enjoyed

much success over the course of his career. John was an indefatigable worker, loving husband, and generous friend. He

loved spending time with his wife and family dogs, Rufus and Willow, in both Lansing and in Sarasota, Florida. John

was especially fond of gardening, nature, and all animals. He will be missed by many whose lives were touched by him as

a mentor and friend. A memorial service will be held next year in Lansing. Those wishing to remember John through

his favorite causes may contribute to The John Hocij Memorial Fund at any Fifth Third Bank or to Rosemary Hocij.

Everett Alumni Fishing Team (unofficial)

 

June 14th - 22nd, 2014  - Bob Whipple, Ed Smith, Loren Hersey, Dana Niendorf, Tom Bradley and Jim Barrett (Class of 1961) went to Cormorant

Lake near the town of The Pas in Northern Manitoba for 5 fantastic days of fishing for Northern Pike, Walleye and Lake Trout. We had

a great time of fishing and just hanging out together. Below are a few of the best pictures.
